An OpenAI key isn’t required for Wordiv to work — Groq and Gemini are both free and cover transcription, translation and text cleanup on their own. OpenAI is the paid option, and unlike the other two it needs a credit card before the key will actually do anything. This guide covers the whole thing, including adding funds.
Anything marked in pink in the screenshots is what you click or fill in. When a screenshot has more than one marker, the numbers show the order.
Click the Get a key button.
Sign in to the OpenAI Platform — Continue with Google is the fastest way if that’s the account you use.
Make sure API Keys is selected in the menu on the left, then click Create new secret key.
Give the API key a name in English — wordiv, for example. Leave the project on Default project, set Permissions to All, and click Create secret key.
In the window that opens, click Copy to copy the API key you were given, then click Done.
Go back to the Settings window and paste the OpenAI API key into the matching field.
A window opens showing your API key for ten seconds, so you can check that you copied the right one. After 10 seconds it closes, and the key is never shown again.
Under AI engines you can pick OpenAI as the model for Transcription (speech → text) — it works the same way under Text AI. Remember this is the paid option: it only works once there’s a payment method on the account, which is what the next few steps set up.
On this screen you can rename the key by clicking the pencil icon, or delete it with the trash icon. To actually use the key, you’ll need to add funds — click Go to Billing at the bottom left.
Click Add payment details.
Enter your credit card details and personal information.
Write the amount you want to load (minimum $5), decide whether you want automatic reloading and under what conditions, then click Continue.
Confirm the payment.
Here you can see how much credit is in the account, along with more details about your usage.
From now on Wordiv can use OpenAI for transcription and text processing. The key is stored on your own computer.
You can come back to this screen any time from Settings in the Wordiv menu.
If you also want speaker separation and image analysis, you need to add a Gemini API key as well — it is also the strongest one for Hebrew.
